My box has three things in it that represent things that impacted me when I entered R.I.T.
There are 10 movie tickets on top of the box. My favorite thing to do it to go with my wife is watch movies in the theater. This is because when I was young, my parents did not know how to set up closed captioning on TV shows. So, I watched many TV shows without closed captioning. When I met my wife, we went out to the movies together, and she helped me set up a closed captioning device. After that, I got hooked on movies because I finally understood what they were talking about. I feel more connected to the movies, it was like a new world to me. Currently, my wife and I often go to the theater to watch movies after class.
You’ll see there is a white triangle shaped ruler in the box. It is my favorite tool, an engineer scale ruler. It is fun to use for class assignments and my personal projects such as design my dream house. The ruler helps me imagine a building’s size better. Without the ruler, my work world probably require twice the time to complete. My goal is to become civil engineer, so that means I will still depend on the ruler for my entire career life.
You might wonder why I have advertising magazine covers all over my box. This is because I constantly get random advertising magazines in the mail. This has happened since I moved from the dorms to my new apartment last year. The previous owner of the apartment apparently subscribed to many types of magazines. I do not know how to unsubscribe from them. It is really annoying because I do not know what to do with hundreds of these advertising magazines. This is a real pet peeve in my life.
I am grateful that I am RIT student because these objects exist in my life. If I was not a RIT student, I might not have these objects or things in my life. These objects help me to understand myself better.
